There are many photographic accessories to choose from – a trend to be gimmicks, while others are necessities. Here is a list of the accessory photo that is essential for us to our more than 100 wild African safaris.
1. Beamer Flash Extender welfare – This accessory allows you to increase the power of the flash stops from February to March, with 300 mm lenses and more. It’s small, lightweight, folds and takes only seconds to fit on the flash. Most water sources in the Kgalagadi and Etosha between 50 and 100 meters of this accessory is important for night shooting.
Second release cable – it’s a photograph essential accessories when shooting long exposures from a few seconds to star trails within hours. It also allows you to get sharper images when used in combination with your tripod.
Third storage device digital images – you need to bring something to save your images, whether your laptop, portable external hard drive or compact flash card lots more. We can take more than 30 GB per day, and our normal safari is 10 days so that you do the math! We take an external hard drive 500 GB, and our laptop.
4th protection against dust and cleaning tools – African game reserves like the Kruger Park is hot and dusty, so it is important to protect your equipment against dust and sunlight by covering with a towel. In addition, you should clean your equipment daily with a bulb blower and light pen.
5. Filters – UV filters should be used or skylight to protect your smaller lenses and a polarizer to reduce glare from water or to improve color. If you visit a polarizer Etosha is a necessity due to the brightness of the white sand. A split neutral density filter will help with landscape images.
6. Flash – the flash built into most cameras can be enough for the flash to fill day time, but not for night photography. We use the Nikon SB-900 flash – these are powerful flashes of light they provide to us during the filming in the fields of the night and into the fill flash during the day.
7th Power – your camera, laptop and flash all work on batteries or AC power, so be sure to bring extra batteries, chargers and adapters. For places like camps Kgalagadi desert, you should get a UPS, which allows you to recharge the batteries and portable device in the car while driving, only huts without electricity.
8. Tele-Converter – a tele-converter allows you to enlarge your subject without having to spend too much money on expensive telephoto lenses. If you have a lens with f/2.8 maximum aperture of f4 in a tele-converter should work fine. We advise you to buy the same brand as your camera and lens.
9. Spotlight – a point of light quality is a must for Kruger, Etosha and the Kgalagadi. At night, the few “hard to reach, once” the animals are active and can be photographed from the fields and camps. We recommend Lightforce lights that are made in Australia.
10. Stable support – for sharp images, you must provide a stable support for your camera. Depending on whether you are a self-guided tour, or driving you should bring a tripod, a beanbag or a window of climbing. We do have the luxury safaris to be able to get the three means of communication with us. A bean bag is very convenient for use in the car and the Pilanesberg Kruger and bird skins.
